With spring comes pollen, grasses and more - oh my!

Three oils for relief

Essential Oils for discomfort in the spring

The trees are budding, the grass is greening up and the rain is making things brighter. We are so blessed in Ottawa Gatineau with the gorgeous cherry blossoms and the annual tulip festival. As the birds begin building their nests and you begin experiencing all the effects from the season change, know that there are options for support in your essential oil collection!

Lavender

As the flowers bloom and the bees spread that pollen from plant to growing plant - lavender’s fresh aroma can offer calm, rest and ahhhhh. It is steam distilled and made from the flower tops of the herb. Most of Doterra’s lavender comes from Bulgaria and France. You can learn more about it’s sourcing on the Source To You website. Add it to your bath for a soothing end to your day, spritz it on your pillow and rub it on your skin after a day in the sun. Lavender is limitless in it’s applications but let’s focus on how we can use it in the spring below.

lemon

When the inspiration to clean and declutter comes up with the warmer days and earlier mornings, when you need to start dusting off the pollen from your windows - it’s time to consider lemon essential oil. Lemon is energizing, fresh, citrus at it’s finest and when blended with peppermint and lavender - it is magic in the spring. Add it to your cleaning routine, diffuse it when you wake up and rub it on the bottom of your feet after a long day. Lemon is cold pressed from the rinds of lemon grown mostly in Italy. Like lavender, it is an incredibly versatile oil.

Peppermint

As the spring breezes move irritants into the air, as the flowers open and release their fragrances, as the bunnies carry grasses to make nests for their babies, peppermint is the third oil to dust off and add to your daily routines. The cool, lightly spicy, energizing, buoyant scent of peppermint offers support to our bodies, energizes the vibe of any room and offers the third ingredient to an awesome blend for spring. Peppermint is grown in the USA and is steam distilled from the leaves and stems of the minty plant.

How to use Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint in the spring

  • Diffuse 2-3 drops of each in your diffuser in any room you are in

  • Add them to your cleaning spray

  • ADULT: Make a roller using 10-20 drops of each in a 10ml roller (fill the rest up with fractionated coconut oil) and apply 2-4 times a day up and down your spine or on the bottom of your feet

  • CHILD: Make a roller using 5 drops of each oil in a 10ml roller same as above

  • Consider TriEase which is Doterra’s option for those who want to take the oils internally

  • Oils that you can add to make this even more amazing? Copaiba, Frankincense and Easy Air.

  • Remember when using topically that lemon is photosensitive. Use only in places that won’t be exposed to the sun.

How to make a Steam Cup

I can personally attest to the effectiveness of the infamous steam cup. We have used variations of these to support us. The image here includes Oregano which is a great idea for adults, but I would recommend copaiba instead for children. You will need your oils, some hot water, the safety of a sink perhaps, a coffee cup and a towel to put over your head. Put 1-2 drops each of lavender, lemon and peppermint in the bottom of the cup. Once your water is boiled, pour the water into the cup (about 1/2 - 3/4 full is enough). Allow the steam to rise into the room and let the aromatics spread in the room for about a minute. Then place your head covered with a towel to keep the aromatics near you over the cup…breathe for about a minute. You will notice some clearing - be ready with some tissue or cloth. Do this as needed - it is especially effective right before bed for a good night’s sleep.

Have you tried the steam cup before? Learn more about essential oils and how they can support you by attending a local workshop or class in Ottawa. There are also online options year round. Having your own personal experience with Doterra is really the best way to decide what is right for you and your family. Please contact me to set up a sample experience and we can go from there.

Happy Spring!
